Please join us at the Brooklin School gym on Saturday, April 15, at 7 PM for a screening of Tales of Wood and Water, a 1991 Discovery Channel documentary film focusing on a variety of wooden-boat builders in Maine.

This beautifully captured, one-hour film features Joel and Steve White of Brooklin Boat Yard and Jon Wilson of WoodenBoat. It also highlights other wooden-boat builders, designers, and enthusiasts, including Jim Stevens and Sonny Hodgdon of Boothbay and Ralph Stanley of Southwest Harbor. The history and tradition of wooden boats on the coast of Maine is legendary, and the film captures the spirit of some of the most important artisans of the time.

Thanks in part to this community, wooden-boat building is alive and well and thriving in ways that were unimaginable, even as recently as 1991. Brooklin has a rich history — and a rich future — of wooden-boat design and construction. Tales of Wood and Water reminds us of the importance of preservation. The moments of Joel and Steve together, and hearing the voice of Joel as he rows his peapod in Center Harbor, are not to be missed.
We hope you will join us!
