Kate Westhaver
During the month of May the library will be showcasing the work of Kate Westhaver. Her show, Resplendent, will be on display for the duration of the month, with an opening on Wednesday, May 7th from 5-6pm. Refreshments will be served. An oil painter who honed her practice as an art education major at the University of Maine Orono, Kate grew up making art in the lobstering community of Damariscotta. She moved to the Blue Hill Peninsula two years ago and spent one year as the art teacher at Deer Isle Elementary before joining the Special Education Department at George Stevens Academy all while continuing to make and seek out art that revolves around rural Maine. Kate says that “this show particularly looks into the performance of femininity, and the confusion of having to do this in a place defined by five month winters, sparsely populated dirt roads, and bait juice”.
